Vain was born In 1983, from a conversation at a party between Micky and Rusty, who was studying Graphic Design at York College of Arts and Technology along with Razor.
Razor was next on board, soon followed by Mark on lead vocals and Sam (Razor’s brother) on bass - the band was complete.
Within a month of formation, Vain’s debut gig was at New Earswick Bop, a stage that had been previously graced by the likes of the great Pink Floyd.
Playing their blend of original material mixed with covers from the likes of Hanoi Rocks, Kiss, Thin Lizzy and more, Vain were underway.
The band grew a following and the next two years saw Vain playing York venues such as The Spotted Cow,
Oscar’s Wine Bar and Plonkers, plus some great shows at Gaffers in Selby, including their Christmas Tube.
During this busy time, which included playing private parties and trips further afield,
Vain had a couple of visits to the recording studio, laying down nine tracks of originals and covers.
1985 saw Micky leave the band, moving away to study Engineering.
New drummer, Stuart Nichol was added to keep the Vain beat going. Sadly, in 1986 the band’s final appearance was made at the Spotted Cow in York.
Until 2017…………………..
Fast-forward to July 2017, Micky’s FaceBook message; ‘anyone fancy getting Vain back together…?’ was answered with a unanimous ‘YES!’
All the original members were in - Vain ‘The Return’ had started.
The issue of a drummer living in Detroit and a guitarist living in Glasgow was not going to stop this from happening.
Meeting up in September 2017 for three-days of rehearsal in York, the band picked up from where they had left off, Vain are well and truly back!
N.B. This Vain are not to be confused the American Heavy Metal band with the same name.
